For the second time in three years, I had the pleasure of attending the Ubud W&R Festival, again to launch a book collection that included my work. The event, which took place at the Watercress café, was well attended, and the audience was kind and engaged enough to ask a few questions after Alice Clark, Marion Kleinschmidt and I read excerpts from our stories.
Once the reading ended, a few attendants stayed around to talk with us a little longer. It is nice to get feedback from our readers, particularly if it is positive; one Festival volunteer told me that she had read my story in full and it had given her goosebumps and made her cry. Well, that gives me goosebumps.
Launch apart, Ubud is such a fun event to attend, with great scenery, kind people, delicious food, many ‘celebrity’ authors and insightful thinkers from the region and beyond, and a variety of events. Highlights for me were Lionel Shriver’s talk about her new novel ‘The Mandibles’, and meeting Juan Pablo Villalobos, who spoke about his novel ‘Down the Rabbit Hole’ and his new projects. I wrote a blog article about the event for Asian Books blog. Take a look.
And here are some pics.
